    Baidu Wangpan guide

Baidu is the top search engine in China, holding a majority 70% share of the Chinese search engine market.

You can think of Baidu as the Chinese version of Google. Just like Google, it has a long list of additional services including Baidu Maps, Baidu Video Search, Baidu Encyclopedia, Baidu Entertainment and more.

Baidu even has its own cloud storage service called Baidu Wangpan. This is sometimes referred to by other names, such as Baidu Cloud, Baidu disk, Baidu Pan or Baidu Yunpan.

If Baidu is like Google, then Baidu Wangpan is like Google Drive. It features cloud storage, file management and sharing, client software and third party integration services.

Here, we’ll outline everything you need to know about Baidu Wangpan to get started.

    Why use Baidu Wangpan?

If you do a lot of business in China, there’s a high chance your Chinese counterparts will be using Baidu Wangpan. If you want to share, access or collaborate on documents with people in China, familiarizing yourself with this cloud storage service is a great idea.

As well as your content being safe from outside eyes, you’ll be able to share links to specific content with specific people. One cool feature is that you can set this share link to expire after 7 days or 1 day, so if you’d only like someone to access it for a limited time, you can use this setting. If not, you can enable them to have permanent access.

Baidu Wangpan has been around since March 2012, which is actually a month before Google Drive was launched. As it’s so well established, you can rest assured that your files will be safe on the Baidu cloud.

Baidu Wangpan offers 6MB worth of initial storage for free. While this is less than the 15MB of storage offered by Google Drive, the additional storage space costs less on the Baidu cloud, so as your business grows, you’ll be saving cash in the long run.

You can upload and store various files on the Baidu cloud, such as photos, mp3, videos, apps and documents. You can access these at any time, wherever you are!

How to register for Baidu Wangpan

Ready to set up your account? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to register an account with Baidu Wangpan:

1️⃣ Head to pan.baidu.com and click ‘sign up’.

2️⃣Enter your chosen username, as well as your Chinese phone number.

Note: If you’re outside mainland China, you’ll need to download a DuSpeaker app to register with your non-Chinese cell phone number. Once you’ve done this, you can log back into Baidu Wangpan and continue.

3️⃣Next, click the verification button to get a 6-digit code sent to your phone. Once you receive the code, enter it and hit ‘sign up’.

4️⃣Now you’ll be logged in! If you like, you can download the mobile app. There’s a handy QR code that you can scan which logs you into the app with ease.

How to share files with Baidu Wangpan

Now that your account is set up, you can start creating and adding files to the cloud. When you’re ready, you can share files with others via a link and an extraction code.

Curious about how to do it? Here’s the breakdown:

    1. Find the file you’d like to share and check the box on the left.
    2. Click the ‘share’ icon, to the right of the file.
    1. Select ‘share with link’ and check ‘use extraction code’.
    2. You can choose when your link expires. It can either be permanently accessible, expire after 7 days or after 1. Once you’ve chosen, click the ‘create link’ button.
    3. Now that you’ve got the link, you can share this along with the extraction code with anyone of your choosing. The chosen people will be able to view and download the files you’ve shared.

Note: Those who receive your file link will not be able to see the rest of the files on your Baidu cloud. Your files are safe from snoopers unless you create and share specific links!

Now that we’ve covered the basics, why not go and set up a free account? Sometimes the best way to get to know a platform is to dive right in. Enjoy!
